This morning I had a bad mom moment. It was funny though. Let me tell you about it...
Eli got mad at Katie and yelled out "you're dumb. D. O. dumb".
Katie and I started laughing and Katie said "D. O. spells do, you dummy. D.O.M.B. spells dumb".
I said, "DUMB is dumb. But nice job trying to spell kids.". Then I walked away.
About 2 hours later realized that I should have told them to not call each names. I was just so happy they were spelling that I forgot to correct them.
I know, I know. Bad mom. But it was funny!

Things I Never Thought I'd Say Part 3
Here's this week's sample...
"Yes, you are a big boy like daddy. But you can't ask every girl to marry you. You need to drive a car and have a job first."
"Get in this house. You may not play outside without pants on."
Raising boys is so much fun!
And examples of what I've told Katie this week...
"Yes, you are growing up, but I don't think you can wear my bra's yet."
"You may not sit on your brother's face to shut him up. Not only is it dangerous, it's gross. What if he bites you?"
I love being a mom. What would I blog about otherwise?!

Clean...
Some days as a mom and housewife I feel like all I do is clean...laundry, dishes, floors, baby bums, etc. Today was no exception. Dishes were piled, laundry was flowing onto the floor. I thought, "man, does the cleaning up ever stop...every time I clean this there's another mess" Then I had a thought. Does the Lord ever get tired of cleaning me? I mean, He sent His one and only Son to clean me and I seen to get myself all messed up again. Does He ever think "good grief Mendy, when are you going to get your act together and stay clean?" No, I don't think so. God loves all the time without hesitation. He willingly cleans me every time I make a mess. Oh, if I could only be like Him and love my family, mess and all!

Kid's Spiritual Gifts
One of the things I have enjoyed as a mom is looking for and nourishing my kids' spiritual gifts. As Solomon says in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go..." My job as a mom is to find what the Lord has made my kids to do and be and help them get there.
For a long time I have known that one of Katie's spiritual gifts is the gift of encouragement but recently she demonstrated it beautifully. I was having a hard day. My head was hurting and I didn't really want to do much more than be in bed. She made me cards, came in and rubbed my head and prayed for me. She encouraged me greatly. Yesterday we were at the store and Katie saw someone looking unhappy. She went over to the woman and smiled. She just smiled. The woman told me how wonderful my children are. Her entire face lit up because Katie smiled at her. I was so blessed to have such a daughter.
Today I heard that one friend had fallen and broke her neck. Then I heard that my friend who is waiting for her double lung transplant is not doing well today. I was sad. But Eli showed me his spiritual gift! He began to pray. As he prayed he not only thought of my two friends but he prayed for their families and doctors and everyone around them. This 3 year old, who can barely sit still for anything, prayed for 10 minutes with such power. I was so blessed.
My kids may have more spiritual gifts as they grow up. But God has shown me one in each one of them that is beautiful and can be cultivated right now.
If you are a parent, are you looking for your kids gifts and how to encourage them in it?Do you have friends or family who are young in their faith that can be encouraged in their gifts? I highly recommend that you do encourage them; you will all be blessed!

Things I Never Thought I'd Say...
As a mom of a boy I have found myself saying things I never thought I'd say. It never ceases to amaze me how different boys are from girls.
Here are a few (although I have a feeling more will be added later).
* Please don't bite the dog again.
* Get your hands out of your pants.
* Poop is not paint!
* That's a doll, not a machine gun.
* No goosing the mama.
*OH, yea. That is a big waterfall. (As he pees standing up at the toilet)
* Yep. Sure is a huge poop!
* Don't pee on the dog...you should use a toilet. (As he peed outside and tried to get the dog who was sniffing around him)
My all time favorite...
* NO! We do not wear a toilet seat on our head.
